INTERVIEW

1. How did you form the team for the competition?

We have been running our own practice, AndrénFogelström, since 2017, working with architecture at all scales. This was a great chance for us to develop a visionary urban planning project.

2. How do you define the main issue of your project, and how did you answer on this session main topic: the place of productive activities within the city?

To transform the existing large scale and car-bound monoculture into a mixed, dense and rich structure where people live, work and relax.

3. How did this issue and the questions raised by the site mutation meet?

”The Generous City” offers a positive vision for the productive city of the future. Based on the topics of resources, mobility and equity the proposal suggests three strategies to develop productive cities; Mix More, Move More and Meet More. Within the strategies, new and traditional urban planning tools are used to transform the existing large scale and car-bound monoculture into a mixed, dense and rich structure where everyone is welcome, and all will be able to contribute. Nature and urbanity intervene to form a city that is generous with green qualities, tolerant to extreme weather and climate change. Streets and public space are designed to absorb water and at the same time encourage meetings and sustainable transportation. In Täby, the modernist city is transformed into a generous and productive city of the future. “The Generous City” is a place where people gather, produce and share.

4. Have you treated this issue previously? What were the reference projects that inspired yours?

Yes, multiple times in our previous work, primarily in the Stockholm region. Many contemporary planning projects in Sweden and the Nordic countries are of very good quality and with similar preconditions.

5. Urban-architectural projects like the ones in Europan can only be implemented together with the actors through a negotiated process and in time. How did you consider this issue in your project?

It is a robust and flexible proposal that is easy to develop into a sustainable city plan. We are very much looking forward to participating in the inspiring democratic process together with the local actors, stakeholders as well as politicians and municipal officers.

6. Is it the first time you have been awarded a prize at Europan? How could this help you in your professional career?

Yes, hopefully it will lead to a continued collaboration between AndrénFogelström and Täby kommun!
