Team Point of View

With the arrival of the metro and the T3 tramway line, we propose to extend the urbanization over the "Haut Montreuil" following 3 approaches:

  • The first link at the city scale is the linear forest. This urban pine tree forest extending from Romainville to the Parc de Montreau is the missing link between the plateau and the town centre that arises from the opportunity created by the demolition of the highway.
  • The second landscape, which spans over the “Haut Montreuil”, is the nature corridor, North-South pedestrian walking paths that go across the heart of the plots away from the car traffic. The natural shape of the North-South inclined topography gives place to a swale that irrigates the gardens and fields with rainwater all the way towards the linear forest.
  • The third landscape structures the city blocks: the crossing fields infiltrate the existing buildings and ends up structuring the distributions of the plots for future constructions. Conviviality is allowed by a culture that favours local markets. At a time when Paris aspires to convert its roofs into urban gardens, it is imperative to conceive any peri-urban expansion by integrating "new vegetable gardens" as food supply parks of the future. Agriculture should not be considered as an element that blocks the growth of the city anymore, but as the real scheme of the Grand Paris.

Jury Point of View

An approach essentially based on the integration of nature into the city through 2 green pathways, one in the heart of the blocks and the other in the footprint of the motorway: a linear forest of pines linking Romainville to Montereau Park. The 3rd landscape consists of cross-fields infiltrated between the existing buildings, providing gardens for the inhabitants. Transformation process: rehousing the existing activity, emptying the land, creation of superimposed structures providing a diversity of programmes, as well as changes through the addition of successive blocks.
