1. How do you define the main issues of your project in relation with the theme “Re-sourcing”? Re-sourcing thanks to nature, to social dynamics, to new materiality? In which way do you think your project can contribute to an ecological and/or social evolution? And in which way do you think your project can be called a “regenerative project”?
We approached the project conducting both an historical analysis on the site and researching new ways of building aligned with extremely prefabricated systems. We designed our building to make it socially aware of its singular position within the neighbourhood and the city of Barcelona -introducing a civic centre, urban gardens...- and also efficient in its constructive system, reducing the impact its construction will have on both the urban fabric and its neighbours.

2. How did the issues of your design and the questions raised by the site mutation meet?
Before designing anything we studied in depth the site and its surroundings; history and urban/architectural scale were always important. We understood our project as an oportunity to enhance the singular aspects of the site and we approached our site as an opportunity to connect two different urban fabrics, one extremely consolidated and one yet to be developed. This way we tried to answer all the questions the site arose, both past and future.

PROJECT:

3. Have you treated these issues previously? What were the reference projects that inspired yours?
The domestic space is a topic that has always attracted us since our university years. We’ve also been keeping a keen eye to all the amazing new social housing developments that in the recent years have been developing in the region, being all of these a source of inspiration to participate on the competition and willing to be part of this new generation of designers.

SITE:

4. How can your project be implemented together with the actors through a negotiated process and in time. How did you consider this issue in your project?
The commission was quite clear and they put a lot of emphasis on the constructive system and process of the design. Therefore we kept all these aspects in mind during the design process. The rational approach and research conducted prior to the design helped on substracting all the extra stuff the project didn’t really need. Real examples previously promoted by the client were taken into consideration as well.

REFERENCES:

5. How did you form the team for the competition and if so what are the skills you associated?
We've been working together on previous competitions and we happen to merge our skills quite well. Aina's creative mind helped on balancing the more rational-oriented approach from Robert. Having a passion for references and other disciplines that complement architecture also brings interesting topics on the table during the design process and helps on questioning every decision on every scale.

6. How could this prize help you in your professional career?
One of the main goals of such competition is to help on connecting both client and administration with designers. After our first meeting with them we felt their interest on developing the project and keeping us on board of this process. Being able to move on with this project will definitely helps us launching our professional career.
