Europan 9 Vantaa

runner-up

What is important in the life of a sustainable city is not only its physical density, but the density of activities which bloom in the built up area. The tower-like volumes formed by different housing typologies create a landmark for the area. Terraced housing masses provide private outdoor spaces even in the center of the district. Concept provides a variety of facilities, commercial spaces and meeting places that promote human relationships. Interaction is increased also by the different layers of public and private yards and terraces, which have a visual connection. Solution brings life to the square in the all different times of day and the year, making it lively and safe at all times.

This project is connected to the following themes

Shared spaces - Programmatic patchwork

In order to achieve a more intense social life, the new district proposed here pursues a certain density of activity within the built fabric (community spaces, playgrounds, offices, shops, homes for the elderly, etc.).

Shared spaces - Link - promenade

Several public spaces are created and linked together via an itinerary that runs through the project

Housing - Morphology

A distinctive morphology provides an original aesthetic to support the theory backed by the project, which is that what is important to a city is the density of the activities created in its built-up areas.
