Europan 11 Ibbenbüren
runner-up
The two project areas are located on the boundaries of a natural belt, an important naturalistic system which determines the conditions for rethinking the rapport between Ibbenbüren and its surroundings, building a strong element of identity on the border between the city and nature. The project proposes a new urban model that revolves around public space, connecting nature and architecture.
This new city derives its identity from the boundary, which is precisely the place where innovation and hybridization are naturally accepted. This becomes a constructed and inhabited border that winds through city and country like an architectural ribbon, facing the city on one side and open space on the other, reminiscent of Janus, the two-faced god seen on doors and pathways.

Housing - Typology
A typological exploration is anchored into a toolkit based on collection of residential components such as fundamental units, stairs, galleries or wintergardens, which are able to generate multiple combinations to be adapted to a wide range of future inhabitants.
