runner-up

The idea is to stitch together the hybrid urban fabrics of this district of Milazzo by implementing circulation, vegetation and social life. The project aims to reinforce and redefine the district’s identity. The organic layout of the street net deals with the hybrid geometry of the site plan and its continuity unites the quarter. The sea passage and the panorama path connect the district directly to the sea and the castle, establishing a new pedestrian west-east axis for residents and tourists. The project maintains most of the existing trees and uses new olive trees close to parking bays and meeting points, creating airy and shaded outdoor space. To enhance social life the strategy is to have one public core building and five smaller public pavilions distributed in the district.

This project is connected to the following themes

Mobility - Urban Generator

A meandering arrangement of collective space “stitches together” the urban fabric, resulting in a twofold dialogue – the new buildings follow the organic track, linking beach and castle to each other as well as to the urban fabric.

Shared spaces - Link - promenade

By an overall regeneration of the existing in-between spaces, the project creates a new urban atmosphere where landscape, new and old come together.
