The project’s focus is to use the quality of a boulevard/beach situation as an attraction for the area. To maximize this effect these qualities are injected deeper into the existing urban masses by introducing a band typology as an means to connect the beach and the urban mass. This typology allows to define better spaces in certain voids in the urban mass. These new spaces are intended to function as meeting points for tourists and locals. Landmarks are located at these spots to make them visible from the boulevard. The Band is both ground material, roofing and building. By using only a few materials with wood as the dominating one a better architectural homogeneity is created. The coastal promenade is a walk through different scenarios.

This project is connected to the following themes

Mobility - Urban Generator

A meandering linear structure brings coastline qualities to the “urban mass”. Not just a connecting surface but also roof and building, the structure becomes a primary element of urban renewal, giving the town the new coherence.

Shared spaces - A Frame for social life

A continuous strip of buildings infiltrates the chaotic urban fabric, creating new in-between public spaces that will function as landmarks within the existing structures for tourists and locals, connecting it with the beach.

Nature - Limit / Reconnection

The project connects the city to the sea through a meandering built strip.
