The opportunity presented by this site stems from a paradoxical need for both built development that facilitates use and open space that facilitates connectivity. The old industrial program is being redesigned and reshaped to accommodate new uses. Past building has created boundaries and private space. The proposal concentrates the area’s essential functions into existing structures, thereby releasing the space for a plaza and providing an opportunity for insertion into the urban fabric. The parks and plazas preserve the public’s connection to the fjord for the future. The project consists of a harbour plaza, water park, silo building, old grain storehouse, entry points, dam, marina and camping for tourists. The plaza is softens the steepness of the slope, providing pedestrian access from the buildings to the water.

This project is connected to the following themes
Shared spaces - A Frame for social life
In order to free up good-quality public spaces linked with the landscape, the project proposes to group a large proportion of the new programmes within the existing building structures.
Nature - Proximity / Horizon
Like the big industrial sheds, the arrangement of the square into a lively but highly localised artificial ground makes the wider scale of the fjord perceptible.
