Europan 10 Östhammar

winner

The exceptional beauty and quality of the site are the natural starting point for the design of the project. Parklife can be seen as a concept of a developed park, where additional programmes and tracks create new rooms in the garden. The new buildings are arranged to minimise their footprint, as clear and compact volumes relating to the park. The volumes are positioned to achieve optimum exposure to the sun and the views, and also to activate the space in between. The project is developed with close attention site’s natural conditions. Changing the site where required, the ambition is to merge the additional programme with the existing, partly developed park, making it the central meeting point in Östhammar.

This project is connected to the following themes

Nature - Proximity / Horizon

The project proposes two intervention strategies interacting with the different scales of the existing landscape: the creation of a park and a pedestrian network that gives walkers access to the natural qualities of the site; the fragmentation of the programme into several compact volumes that resonate with the territorial scale.
