1. How do you define the main issues of your project in relation with the theme “Re-sourcing”? Re-sourcing thanks to nature, to social dynamics, to new materiality? In which way do you think your project can contribute to an ecological and/or social evolution? And in which way do you think your project can be called a “regenerative project”?
The main challenge was to develop a masterplan that treats existing resources as part of a continuous, adaptable process—one capable of responding to future change while keeping the industrial estate active. The project supports both ecological and social transformation by restoring the soil’s permeability, enhancing biodiversity, and fostering a vibrant, sustainable community. HEJ VÅXNÄS! can be described as a regenerative project, guided by three clear implementation strategies: early activation, adaptable construction, and long-term integration.
2. How did the issues of your design and the questions raised by the site mutation meet?
The site is currently an expanding industrial estate and cannot be entirely transformed at once; therefore, the design must remain adaptable to multiple future scenarios, shaped by the decisions of diverse stakeholders. The proposal overlays three urban strategies—serving as connective frameworks—with 45 distinct operations. Rather than prescribing a fixed outcome, these operations function as an urban toolkit through which all stakeholders actively participate in shaping the future of HEJ VÅXNÄS!
PROJECT:
Prior to entering this competition, José [Pepe] Lacruz Vela had already won Europan 16 Barcelona, addressing a similar challenge of transforming an industrial estate, and Europan 17 Vienna. Álvaro Sánchez Garda won Europan 16 Levanger, where he developed a strategy to intervene in and revitalise an urban city centre. In addition, we conducted extensive research into comparable projects and development models across other Scandinavian countries.
SITE:
At every stage of HEJ VÅXNÄS!, citizens and stakeholders are not just consulted—they are co-creators. The transformation unfolds through a hands-on, transparent process that turns local insight into lasting impact. This layered approach—combining exhibitions, workshops, digital tools, real-world testing, and shared governance—anchors HEJ VÅXNÄS! in collective stewardship. Here, participation isn’t a formality—it’s the foundation. The district grows through the creativity, experience, and commitment of the very people who live it.
REFERENCES:
We both meet during the E16/E17 Europan Event / Workshop in Clermont-Ferrand, since we have participated in multiple competitions and endeavors together.
6. How could this prize help you in your professional career?
Europan is a great opportunity to kickstart young architectural practices. This prize will allow us not only to develop a strong proposal with the local administrations, but also engage in an urban conversation about innovative planning that transcends the national scale.
