1. How do you define the main issues of your project in relation with the theme “Re-sourcing”? Re-sourcing thanks to nature, to social dynamics, to new materiality? In which way do you think your project can contribute to an ecological and/or social evolution? And in which way do you think your project can be called a “regenerative project”?
Framed by the topic, we propose an integrated approach rooted in ecological processes, circular economic systems, and active community participation. Implementation is structured in phases across three interconnected scales—territorial, metropolitan, and local—progressively advancing from landscape resources management to full urban integration. We focus on soil as experimental sites for circular resource management and food productivity.
2. How did the issues of your design and the questions raised by the site mutation meet?
The area faces a complex set of environmental and human-induced challenges, including climate change risks, poor integration into metropolitan planning and structurally unsafe buildings. Rather than viewing these conditions as peripheral liabilities, the project reimagines La Font del Gos as a living prototype for a new model of peri-urban regeneration where environmental systems, circular economies, and inclusive governance are woven into a coherent, multi-scalar strategy.
PROJECT:
The entire team, with diverse experiences, addressed the following issues. In particular, Margherita's doctoral research, ‘Extreme Terres of Anthropocene’ (conducted at IACC in Barcelona), focused for three years on inland and peri-urban areas at high anthropogenic risk and with significant soil resources. Building on this experience, we combined a data design-driven approach based on mapping with urban design as a tool for dynamic urban planning.
SITE:
Development unfolds incrementally over several years, beginning with low-budget, low- impact interventions that establish the groundwork for long-term transformation. To ensure continuity and accountability, a stable governance and funding structure is put in place to support ongoing regeneration efforts. A multi-actor governance model is established, integrating stakeholders to guarantee that planning remains participatory and grounded in the lived experiences.
REFERENCES:
Our aim was to have as interdisciplinary a team as possible: that is why, based on our previous friendship and our previous win at Europan 17 (Cantù, Italy), we decided to work together for the first time, all three of us. Our work combines architecture and urban design with a data design approach that is fundamental for evaluating and projecting the effects and results of the proposed dynamic design strategy.
6. How could this prize help you in your professional career?
The Europan competition enables the possibility to initiate a dialogue and a professional experience to develop a part of the masterplan with Ayuntamiento de Barcelona, Parc Collserola Consortium and Barrio Font del Gos . It is also an opportunity for us as professionals to access an international city project that would otherwise be closed to us.
