The article, written by Dimitri Szuter (FR), PhD Architect, researcher and performer, explains how Vulnerable neighbourhoods can become regenerative places by mobilizing the agencies of residents and local ecosystems through three complementary approaches:
1-Empowering communities for shared agency
. Move to mechanisms that give residents real decision power
. Create ritualized meeting places as a political-relational infrastructure.
. Propose a digital platform linking needs, spaces, and data to generate scenarios
2-Incremental design that reinforces existing potentials
. Accept uncertainty; evolve through small, testable steps.
. Rebuild centrality using a site as an experimental base camp
. Carefully modify an activity center through precise actions so the place evolves with its people.
3-Architecture as a regenerative ecosystem
. Reconnect neighbourhoods to territorial ecologies
. Treat the site as an ecotone, using local resources to form new soils, envelopes, and materials.
. Rethink domestic and communal typologies as a symbiotic system, opening neighbourhoods requires deeper powersharing, incremental and cared-for transformations, and multi-scalar, treating the project as a regenerative ecosystem attentive to what already exists.
