E18 Forum of Cities and Juries - Lisbon 16-18/10
Around 180 European participants gathered at the Lisbon School of Architecture for the Forum of Cities and Juries of Europan 18, an event dedicated to exchanging ideas and visions around the pre-selected projects before the final deliberations of the 11 juries that will determine the winning teams.
Representatives from 47 sites across 12 European countries—including site representatives, urban managers, and local stakeholders—met with jury members (architects, landscape designers, urban planners, and experts) and competition organizers. Together, through dialogue and debate, they worked toward building a shared culture of reflection around the key theme of this session: Re-sourcing.
Out of 804 submissions, 236 projects were preselected following a detailed review by the Scientific Committee and the Technical Commission, both composed of experts from various European nations. These projects served as a foundation for discussions that unfolded around three major thematic directions:
Re-sourcing through natural elements / risks
Re-sourcing through ways of life and inclusivity
Re-sourcing through materiality
The young professionals participating in Europan 18 tackled these complex issues by analyzing site potentials in depth and proposing process-based projects aimed at repairing, reactivating, and enriching environments over time. Their work reflects an adaptive approach to climate change and evolving notions of habitability, fostering coexistence between human and non-human life forms.
These vibrant discussions, moving from one site to another and one design approach to the next, highlighted the richness of cross-European exchange. Once again, this Forum of Cities and Juries of Europan 18 demonstrated the value of collaborative reflection and shared evaluation in advancing innovative thinking on the future of inhabited spaces.
Thank you to all participants for their active involvement and willingness to consider one another’s perspectives.
The results of the competition will be announced on the 17th November 2025, on the European Europan website: www.europan-europe.eu
