A first strategy is to implant small public spaces – squares and parks – which will subsequently act as catalysts and modify the existing boarder areas.Individual quarters will in this way be surgically replaced by new residential islands: existing old circulation systems and traditional methods of informal building will be integrated. The “implant strategy” ensures on the one hand a maximum of planning freedom and opportunities, while on the other hand it makes a development in stages possible. These implants of “residential islands” which should naturally be well connected with the existing stock and the supplementing “public space implant” do accept the fact that in the near future new settlement areas of a different nature can and will develop.

This project is connected to the following themes

Shared spaces - A Frame for social life

The transformation process is based on a series of surgical interventions, implants of small public spaces. This strategy should result in a new arrangement in which large, linear, green public spaces reconnect the city and the sea.

Nature - Hybridity / Juxtaposition

The project restructures the existing site into a series of alternating built and landscape strips and articulates the whole to a park strip that links the back of the city to the sea.
