Europan 11 Allerød

runner-up

The Nest is a place for nature and nurture. It creates a green, diverse and accessible environment for the future inhabitants of Ny Blovstrød. It extends Blovstrød by linking directly to the existing street system and provides connections to the surrounding forests. The scenic ring connects to the local landscape while the fast ring offers an alternative route for regional connections. The green belt brings existing woodland into the site, providing shelter and biomass for heating. Its open space is devoted to sports activities, private and communal allotments and meeting places. Building siting and massing follow the need for daylight and solar access, and the housing typologies for each population group are distributed to cater for everyday needs within walking distance.

This project is connected to the following themes

Habitat - Autonomous morphology

A new residental quartier as an extension of the existing town is organized through a new urban grid which is adapted to the geometry of the land, the bioclimatic conditions and the agricultural activity. The plan combines housing blocks with farming areas within the grid.

Nature - Proximity / Horizon

Through the process of crosswise extensions of the current green belt, the new urban frame intensifies the relations to the big landscape, letting it weaving, to the closest, in inhabited spaces. New built arrangements are living together with lands left with varied productive uses.
