1. How did you form the team for the competition?
We have worked together for years and we have participated in Europan before, so it was natural to form a team again.
2. How do you define the main issue of your project, and how did you answer on this session main topic, Living cities?
It’s interesting with an overall topic. But with the topic in mind, we tried to focus on what we believed was actually needed on the site of Risøy. While working on our site analysis and our concept, the main topic came and went in the process. It played a big part in some decisions and in others a smaller one.
We are not working with a special reference project in mind. We use our own library when we work, it’s multiple project references and experiences that helps us. But first of all, it’s the site and our analysis of the site that decides the take and the direction we go.
It seems like there is a will from Haugesund municipality to continue working with the winning team. That’s of course a motivator when participating.
6. Is it the first time you have been awarded a prize at Europan? How could this help you in your professional career?
Jens and Karl won Europan 13 in Ørsta, Norway, with architect Maria Crammond. After winning an implementation process took place together with the municipality of Ørsta. That gave us the possibility of creating a temporary office for almost 2 years. So winning Europan can really change your career. But it depends on the given municipality and it’s will to continue working with the winning team. We have some great memories from Ørsta. A special mention in Risøy won't change our careers, but it's of course a great honor.
